Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed game to feature major player from the lore

It looks likely the highly anticipated VR game Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is to bring to life a big character from the Ghostbusters mythology.

The game’s official twitter page has announced that iZombie star Rahul Kohli, left, will be playing the one and only John Horace Tobin, author of the Tobin’s Spirit Guide, the book the ‘Busters use to read up on ancient evils and the undead.

Tobin has a long history in the Ghostbusters universe (here) ever since his Spirit Guide was first mentioned in the first movie by Ray and Egon in 1984. He has since appeared in various stories (here) and was described in the excellent IDW Ghostbusters comics where he briefly appeared and was described as: having a somewhat solemn and guarded demeanor that gave way to an almost childlike enthusiasm.

The game will also star Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson as Ray and Egon who are starting up a new team of Ghostbusters with the story loosely picking up after the events of Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Another big draw of the game is that it will allow players to play as ether a Ghostbusters or, for the first time, one of the ghosts.

Who you gonna call when you wanna bust some ghosts? Thanks to cross-platform multiplayer, anyone on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and/or Xbox Series X|S or One can come together to cross the streams or spew slime. AI companions can help fill games, or enable solo Ghostbusters or a solo Ghost to play offline.

Trailer for new Ghostbusters game is a real blast

“Ghostbusters is one of the most beloved IPs in the world, so we are pulling out all the stops to make something special and accessible to this diverse fanbase,” said Charles Brungardt, CEO, IllFonic. “If you’re someone who loves the movies or asymmetrical multiplayer games, this was made for you.”

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will launch on Epic Games Store for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
