Nintendo News Explosion Wrap-Up!

August 30th, 2014 by Todd Black Comments

Needless to say, Nintendo made a BIG impact on the internet today. Lots of news was announced, and it can make it hard to track it all down, so allow us here at FTN to soften the blow and bring you all the news that happened today. Shall we begin?

Let’s start with the big one first:

Shulk has been confirmed for Super Smash Bros.! He wields the mighty Monado and will bring a flurry of abilities to the table. He also brings a gorgeous stage straight from Xenoblade Chronicles! You can watch the epic reveal trailer here.

Another big announcement was the reveal of two new versions of the Nintendo 3DS. New C Stick, improved controls and graphics, and the ability to use Amiibo’s, this version of the handheld seems to be the definitive version of the system.

Oh, and did I mention that Xenoblade Chronicles is coming to the New Nintendo 3DS? I didn’t? Well, it is!

The Amiibo’s are coming! Ever since they were first revealed, the Amiibo’s have been somewhat clouded in mystery. Especially when it came to availability and price. Well today, Nintendo revealed that 12 Amiibo’s would be available to buy when released. All are available to pre-order for $12.99 a piece. The characters that will be available are: Mario, Peach, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Marth, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer. More of course will be on the way afterwards.

As is tradition with the upcoming holiday season, Nintendo is going to be releasing some bundles for both the Wii U and the 2DS. Here are the deals they’re offering:

  • Super Mario 3D World Deluxe Set: Starting mid-September, the new Wii U Deluxe Set will include the Wii U console and physical Super Mario 3D World and Nintendo Land games at a suggested retail price of $299.99.
  • Walmart Exclusive Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Set: In mid-September, Walmart stores nationwide will offer a special-edition Wii U bundle that includes the console along with physical Mario Kart 8 and Nintendo Land games at a suggested retail price of $299.99. This exclusive bundle will be             available while supplies last.
  • New Nintendo 2DS Bundles: In early October, three new Nintendo 2DS bundles will hit stores. The new bundles feature the Electric Blue, Crimson Red or Sea Green Nintendo 2DS system along with a code to download Mario Kart 7 from the Nintendo eShop. The bundles will be available at a suggested retail price of $129.99 each.

Another major title for Nintendo got a confirmed release date. Bayonetta 2, which comes compiled with the original Bayonetta, will release on Oct. 24.

Finally, some great news for those who are looking forward to the upcoming title Hyrule Warriors. Nintendo has promised to “support the game for the long run”, and that includes free DLC on day one when it releases on Sept. 26. The DLC will include a new mode, a new weapon, and the option to pick certain that plays in Hyrule Warriors. Add this to the alternate costume DLC, and there’s plenty to look forward to.

Nintendo is doing all they can to make this Holiday season something to remember. With Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Pokémon Alpha Rube and Omega Sapphire, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and of course the two versions of Smash Bros., it’s not so far of a stretch to say that this is a great time to be a Nintendo fan!
