In 2014 an extraordinary number of excellent mobile games were released. These games pushed boundaries in terms of intuitive gameplay, realistic animations, and the level of player participation in the game’s outcome. We take a look at three of the most popular mobile games launched in 2014.

minecraft

Minecraft
This seemingly simple game, in which you use cubes to build structures of varying complexity, is so popular it has sold nearly 2.4 million copies across all platforms, which makes it one of the best-selling video games ever created. The much anticipated mobile version was released this year and has proved as addictive as other platforms. Minecraft offers players three modes of play: survival mode, creative mode and adventure mode.
In survival mode you need to fight predators and ensure the safety of your character as well as building structures. Creative mode allows you to build whatever you like – resources are unlimited and you are not restricted by your character’s health. Adventure mode enables you to explore maps and territories created by other players. One of the main strengths of the game is the amount of freedom with which the player is presented – you choose which elements of play you prefer.

the walking dead season 2

The Walking Dead: Season Two
As the sequel to a game that won more than 90 Game of the Year awards, The Walking Dead: Season Two, released this year, had quite a lot to live up to. Fortunately, the follow up delivers as much and more than its predecessor in terms of player engagement and the depth of character development. In this season you play as Clementine, an orphaned girl who must find her way in a world devastated and plagued by zombies. As in Season One, you will be faced with a series of choices that not only shape the nature of your character, but also determine the direction in which the plot will evolve.
Through Clementine, you interact with your environment and with other characters. Your actions towards other characters alter their attitudes toward you and allow you to pursue different plotlines. The Walking Dead: Season Two is one of the most gripping and fun video games released this year, providing both emotional engagement and the chance to battle it out with zombies.

coyote-cash

Coyote Cash
This year has seen an increase in the amount of casino gaming apps downloaded by online players – an increase arguably linked to the rising popularity of mobile casino games. Coyote Cash is one of the favourites of players who enjoy slot machines. Created by RealTime Gaming, this video slot makes use of 5 reels and 25 paylines and follows the story of a wily coyote who attempts to rob a bank, but is pursued and challenged by a burly cop in the form of an eagle.
Coyote Cash includes many bonus features, such as wilds, scatters, multipliers and free spins. A progressive jackpot is up for grabs and can be won at any time after a winning or non-winning spin. This tribute to the Road Runner is as entertaining as it is rewarding and can also be played for real money at a number of reputable mobile casinos, such as Grand Fortune Casino.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
