The latest installment in the long running and occasionally controversial game franchise Assassin’s Creed has been unveiled by Ubisoft.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate seeks to ride the coat tails of popular Victorian era set TV shows like Peaky Blinders, Ripper Street and Penny Dreadful with this new game set in London 1868.

It introduces a new Assassin, Jacob Frye, who, with the help of his twin sister Evie (who many hope will be a playable character), will rise to rally and lead the underworld to break the corrupt Templar stranglehold on London.

Two videos have been revealed: a trailer and a game play video.

Here’s the usual NSFW bloody, murder filled trailer we’ve come to expect:

.
The game play video reveals a bunch of new gadgets including a Batman-style grappling hook and weapons, environmental interactions like cutting pulley ropes to drop overhanging weights on targets.

They have also changed the fighting system to make it flow better and it looks very like the system in the Batman: Arkham series. The part that looks the most fun in the game play video is the Ben Hur style carriage chases through Victorian London.

Will imitating the Batman:Arkham games’ mechanics in a setting straight out of a BBC drama be enough to win back the fans Ubisoft lost through the buggy launch of Assassins Creed Unity and Rogue?
