When Kylo Ren needed inspiration in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he turned to Darth Vader’s melted helmet. However, it turns out that wasn’t even the real thing.
Actor David Prowse, who played Vader in the original films, just showed off the real helmet that was reclaimed from the pyre in Return of the Jedi…and it looks completely different to the one from The Force Awakens.
The actor revealed the memorabilia in a Facebook post (via Squareeyed), writing: “The actual Vader helmet and mask after Return of the Jedi.“
Prowse’s original looks much more charred and damaged than the cinematic one from The Force Awakens and, while we can understand why J.J. Abrams decided not to use it, it’s great to know that it’s still sticking around.
Of course, with the latest exciting reports suggesting that Vader is set to have a ‘major role’ in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the costume designers will need the real thing, undamaged obviously.
