While we have reported in the past that Superman and Black Adam may throw down in an upcoming movie (here), star Zachary Levi wants Wonder Woman to appear (here) and that it’s likely Batman will appear in Shazam! (here), and it now looks like we’ll be seeing Superman in the Shazam! movie too if the new rumours are to e believed.
Revenge of the Fans are reporting “the next time you’ll get to see Cavill’s Superman on the big screen is April 5, 2019 [Shazam!’s release date].”
They go on that they have “been told by a trusted source that [Henry] Cavill is set to appear in Shazam! This decision comes after a bunch of internal discussions about where to place him next, since a sequel [to Man of Steel] is still a ways off. Dwayne Johnson is adamant about having Cavill appear in his Black Adam film, but- for the time being, that film, I’m told, is far from getting off the ground because of Johnson’s hectic schedule.”
With the rumours that we might see Batman in the movie (above), we imagined it would be because, as was set up in Justice League, Batman and Wonder Woman are still recruiting heroes to join the League and that that may be where he fitted into Shazam’s story, as for Superman, it could be quite different than our imaginings.
“Superman,” continues the report, “has had an impact on Asher Angel’s Billy Batson [the young boy who becomes a superhero when he utters the word Shazam!]. Batson sees the Man of Steel as an inspirational figure in his life, and that seems to feed into how he conducts himself when he eventually transforms into a cape-wearing, square-jawed superhero himself, in the form of Zachary Levi.”
We have heard several fans speculate that one of the little boys talking to and filming Superman at the beginning of Justice League could have been Billy Batson, so this would all tie in nicely – something similar to the way Marvel sort of ret-conned Spider-man being in the MCU since Iron Man 2 (here).
So, while this still a rumour, it would be a nice way to have Superman appear and it may also give us an idea of who exactly Shazam!’s hero will be when he’s tackling bad guys.
