New Ghostbusters movie gets exciting filming title and it really has our attention

March 9th, 2023 by Marc Comments

It looks like the new Ghostbusters movie, currently called Ghostbusters: Firehouse, has a new shooting title and it got out attention.

Announced at last year’s Ghostbusters Day event (here), the movie will pick up after the events of 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and will see the new team of Ghostbusters heading to New York once more, the true home of the franchise.

At the end of the last movie we saw Winston, played by Ernie Hudson, taking the Ecto-1 back into the Firehouse the team used in the glory days, setting up a new adventure as we saw a light blinking in the containment unit, hinting that something was coming…

Now we learn that the new movie is filming under the title of Hell’s Kitchen.

And it has us wondering.

Now, it’s unlikely the final movie will be called Hell’s Kitchen (or Firehouse, in fairness) but the new title seems significant, as we all know, is the name given to Clinton in the West Side of Midtown Manhattan in New York City, where the Firehouse is located – and most people know it best because it’s where Daredevil does his best vigilante work – but it could also be a call back to Ghostbusters: Hellbent.

What now?

Well, Hellbent was what Ghostbusters III was originally set to be as Dan Aykroyd shopped the idea around in the late 1990s and it would’ve seen the Ghostbusters become very successful after the events of the second movie and it’s now a much bigger affair with new team members and everything; anyway, as the story unfolds, the OG team realise that death is no longer working as it should be and end up in hell, which is an alternate version of New york (makes sense0 and it’s up to them and the new team in our reality working together to get them back and death working properly again; if you haven’t heard of it before, you should read the cool synopsis on the GB Fandom page and it honestly sounds like it would have been a lot of fun.

Anyway, the new title has us wondering if we’re going to see this story adapted for the screen with the new team – McKenna Grace, Paul Rudd etc – trying to get the orinal team back from and alternate reality or – gasp! – help itself? We’re hearing the original cast – Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver – may be back again, so this could indeed be the story.

I’d love to see Hellbent get adapted for a couple of reasons: firstly, it’s Dan Aykroyd’s vision for where the franchise should have went and secondly, I think they should have fun with the premise now and just go full-on with it. Why not have Death? The devil, the Sandman… they really should embrace the world and history of the franchise.

Co-writer Jason Reitman shared the image, left, of director Gil Kenan wearing the Ecto-Googles a few days  ago as the movie is set to begin filming next week… going to be a push to get it out for Christmas, but we’re hopeful that we’ll be spending the 2023 Festive Season with the Ghsotbusters again, just like in 2021.

Anyways, what do you think of the title?

Ghostbusters: Firehouse will be directed by Gil Kenan and will also star and returning cast Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Carrie Coon.
It’s set for release on December 23rd, 2023
