A new report has placed the filmmaking duo behind recent Ghostbusters films, Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, behind yet another beloved legacy franchise, as, according to trusted industry insider Jeff Sneider, Sony Pictures is currently eyeing a live-action Astro Boy film, with the project said to be in early development, writes Jason from Ghostbusters News,

There’s currently no official word from Sony Pictures, and Reitman is not believed to be attached to direct, though that could change if the project moves forward. With development still said to be in its early stages, it may be some time before anything materializes. If it does advance, the reported Astro Boy, left, film would place another major legacy property under the duo’s creative guidance.

For Ghostbusters fans, the potential involvement of Reitman and Kenan is particularly notable. The pair have played a key role in shaping the modern era of the franchise, with Reitman directing 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Kenan helming Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, while both co-wrote the films. Beyond those releases, the two remain deeply connected to the future of Ghostbusters, currently developing both an animated feature and an animated series for Netflix.
