Praise the movie gods! The Coen brothers are teasing a new collaboration, marking their first movie together since 2018’s much-better-than-they-say, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
The filmmaking brothers brought us such amazing movies as Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou, The Big Lebowski, Miller’s Crossing and No Country for Old Men and have, in recent years, been working alone on their movie projects but now they are saying a new movie is coming and swearing there is no falling out between the duo – “it’s not anything like that,” said Joel.
“We’re getting old. It better be the near future,” says Joel, now 71, adding: “We have a number of different things in what we call the library, things that we’ve written before. And then other things that we’ve thought about writing scripts about and never gotten around. So we don’t know yet.”

It seems though, as coy as Joel is being, Ethan (69), seems to know what it won’t be and what it might be: “It’s definitely some weird cultural thing where mainstream movies are now mostly fantasy: fantasy, science fiction, horror, comic books, all different kinds of fantasy. It’s a sad thing for us because we’ve never been drawn to those kinds of things.”
However, in 2o24, Ethan Coen and fellow filmmaker Tricia Cooke – who made Drive Away Dolls with Ethan confirmed the brothers had a new script written and it was “pure horror film, and it gets very bloody. If you like Blood Simple, I think you’ll enjoy it.”
However, this doesn’t mean it’s the movie the brothers will make as stated above, they have a store of scripts and stories written and unwritten that they want to develop.
Whatever it is, we will be excited for it because, even when they misfire, the Coen brothers blow nearly all filmmakers out of the water.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
