Every week FTN will be hosting videos looking back at classic films from the 80s and early 90s…
The videos will be a retrospective look back at a particular film covering all sides of the production and discussing how the film turned out. Many people on the net generally like to discuss films with a negative attitude and take joy in bashing films for comedic effect which does work but often many of the reviews aren’t researched well or films are taken out of context for the purpose of making a joke and I feel websites such as youtube have become over-saturated with these types of videos, I wanted to do something different.
“Often you come across films with no extras available on the DVD and you want to know more about it, so with some of the upcoming videos I will be discussing films that don’t get the respect they deserve or the ones that aren’t as bad as people think…”
Halloween II
1981 saw the sequel to the epic hit Halloween arrive on the big screen! The first Halloween was the most successful independent movie ever made, doing a follow up was going to be a challenge and John Carpenter had no interest in directing a sequel. When asked, he declined but agree to produce and write it. He struggled to come up with a story and spent many a night drinking, struggling to create a plot.
The movie takes place on the same night as the original which was a very smart move and you discover some interesting trivia about Laurie Strode’s background linking her to Michael Myers.
Halloween II did very well on release beating many other horror movies at the time such as The Howling and Omen III but couldn’t beat the first movie. This is still considered the best of the sequels before it went all out of control and became a bit of a joke.
Let’s have a look back at Halloween II and see if it still holds up and, most importantly, is it still scary?
