Set in the 1960s, Kyle Higgins and Alex Siegel give us a story of a group of heroes in Chicago, who, for once, actually get paid for their services. Basically, they’re a bunch of cops, but cooler.
It was an interesting start, both in introductions of characters and of story. Right off the bat, it’s more than just the bright shiny heroes of a city, but their personal lives and personal problems. I really enjoyed that, already, you could see the flaws and issues that these people go through. It wasn’t just pow-bang-we saved the day, and I think that aspect of these stories will continue to shine, especially in the climate that was the 1960s.
Reis’s art was probably my favorite part of picking up this new series. He got the feel of the era spot on, and had a great use of color mixed in with the griminess of a city. I also really appreciated his use of shadows on faces and the styles of clothing.
Frankly, I’m really excited for this book. I can’t wait to see where this team goes with it.
