The first issue after the departure of a creative team…how’d it go? Well, pretty well, I must say.
A one-off story with a simple problem: stop the baddie. Gage does an excellent job in filling the criteria for a solid storyline, complete with some interesting characters. I’ve gotta say, I quite enjoyed Spitfire and how she conducted her crimes. Reminds me a little of Roxy Rocket from the old Batman animated series. While personality took a bit of a back seat in this one, I enjoyed the connection and mentions of the Justice League, and how Barry is often asked about Superman. But his inner monologue and the subtle quirkiness of the characters was still there, and made it all quite enjoyable.
I really liked the art for this one too. A little cartoony and bright, but I think that’s what added to the fun of it. I liked Spitfire’s design and Flash’s range of motion and body language. And the lightness of the colors was lovely, and seemed kind of fitting for the world of Barry Allen. Not to say, of course, it should always be that way, but for a cute little one-shot, I think it’s perfect.
Overall, it was an adorable adventure. That’s what we’ll refer to it as. See? Barry proves you don’t need to be an alien to be able to fly and do all the cool stuff, too!
