The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to feature an X-Men: Days of Future Past clip during credits

April 16th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Well this certainly has my nerd sense tingling, according to Empire there is an X-Men: Days Of Future Past clip in the credits of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which could possibly mark a new era of collaboration between competing studios with Fox and Sony working together.

According to the site:

Now this isn’t a post-credits sting as we’ve seen before in the Marvel universe, setting up some sort of crossover between the two worlds. Rather, it’s a clip from the X-film that gives us a taste of the action we’re in for. We’ve been told by Sony that the clip will be attached to the film in the UK.

The scene featured sees Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, Lucas Till’s Havok and Evan Jonigkeit’s Toad taking on William Stryker (Josh Helman) and his military men. Without wishing to spoil anything, let’s just say that Mystique once again demonstrates her formidable fighting skills in the brief segment.

This is not the first attempt at co-operation between studios sharing the Marvel universe: there were early talks to have the Oscorp building appear in the New York skyline of Avengers.

While this isn’t the kind of scene we’d get from a Marvel Studios film, it may lead us to some very interesting places.

Variety is reporting that  director Marc Webb had an existing contract with Fox Searchlight to helm another film following 2009′s 500 (Days) of Summer. After The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012, Webb’s negotiations briefly stalled with Sony as he was caught in a tug-of-war with Fox. Eventually, Fox agreed to allow Webb to direct Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man sequel, but only if Sony would promote its X-Men film for free.

Oh well it was nice while it lasted.
