I reported back in April that the Robocop series at Amazon Prime Video was moving ahead, but now it’s official and we have more details.
While the series is being written and showrun by Pushing Daisies and The Office’s Peter Ocko, it has several exec producers including James Wan and, most importantly, co-creators and co-writers of the original Robocop movie, Michael Miner and Ed Neumeier, so that gives me a little more confidence.
Horror maestro Wan said of the series: “I’ve been a massive fan of Robocop for forever, so getting to help bring this world to television is a dream. What Paul Verhoeven created in 1987 was decades ahead of its time, and its questions about technology, identity, and who corporations really serve have only grown more urgent.
“With Peter’s distinctive vision and bold approach to storytelling, and alongside Ed and our partners at Amazon MGM Studios, we’re working to honor what made the original iconic and highlight its relevancy in this modern, tech-driven world, while building something unmistakably new for a global audience.”
For the record, I am also hearing that Wan will direct ‘key’ episodes of the series.
First coming to screens in 1987, Verhoeven’s Robocop was a violent, bitingly funny and smart commentary of modern living that may be even more on the nose today, but while it had a couple of sequels, with star Peter Weller only returning for Robocop 2, written by comics legend Frank Miller, nothing ever came close to the first movie.
Over the years, Robocop has been reimagined several times in TV shows, TV movies, animated shows and a big-screen reboot in 2014, and that’s not counting games, comics and more, but again, nothing has even come close to the magic of the original movie.

Tidbit:
Word is the new series will focus on a new character, Marc Kyle, who is a soldier who dies in war before becoming Robocop. In the orginal story, Robocop was a murdered Detroit police officer called Alex Murphy (played by Peter Weller), who died at the hands of a murderous gang.
There’s also a suggestion that Weller may return as the original Robocop in a mentor-type role, but I don’t think I like that idea, but we’ll see.
Filming could begin in Vancouver in January 2027.
So this new series has big, big boots to fill.

I’ll believe it when I see it… but I’m absolutely hoping I’m proven wrong.
A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.
There’s no release window for the eight-episode Robocop series yet but once I know more, you’ll be the first to know.
So, thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all!
