David Oyelowo, Freddie Prinze Jr. in talks for voice cast of Star Wars Rebels

September 23rd, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

David Oyelowo, Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray and Steven Jay Blum are in talks to voice the lead characters of Lucasfilm’s upcoming animated series, Star Wars Rebels, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No word yet on which characters they would provide the voices for.

It’s worth mentioning that last Friday Latino-Review reported a rumor that Oyelowo read for a part in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII. Was this the part he really read for? Some sites are reporting that he may be doing both Episode VII and Rebels, either playing the same character or a descendant.

Star Wars Rebels is set between the events of Episode III and IV, an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. It takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.

The series  will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, featuring many of the key talents that made Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

It is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, and will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.
