Drew Struzan is asked to provide artwork for new Star Wars films

January 22nd, 2013 by Marc Comments

Semi-retired Star Wars artist Drew Struzan has been asked to return to a galaxy far, far away.

The man behind some of the most iconic artwork for George Lucas’ sci-fi epic has revealed that Disney have been in contact to see whether he will work on the new set films now in production.

“Oh my god, I’m trying to be retired!” he told Fanhattan. “You know, I spent 35 years painting Star Wars. I painted ‘Star Wars’ before most of you were born! But I guess there is always a chance.

“There’s no intention. But I would love to have a day off every now and again, and I have to work a weekend and all through the night. If the opportunity arises, it will be a real temptation. But it’s going to have to be a real temptation to get me away from my wife and my little grandkids and my family. Away from the green trees and the blue skies for a change instead of just locked in the studio. But, you know, never say never. All things are possible.”

In addition to his work with past Star Wars films, Struzan is responsible for posters for The Thing, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and many more.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
