Event Horizon’s Paul WS Anderson returning to cosmic horror with Kevin J Anderson’s Nether Station and Nether Vortex

Ok, in my head canon, these are now part of the Event Horizon universe.

It’s been announced that Paul WS Anderson, director of the incredible cosmic space horror Event Horizon, is returning to the genre with two new movies based on author Kevin J. Anderson’s [no relation. Probably] sci-fi horror duology, Nether Station and Nether Vortex.

The story of the two novels centres on a neurodivergent scientist named Cammie Skoura, who discovers ancient runes and alien civilizations during a space expedition. The first book, Nether Station, came out in 2024 and the sequel was only released in October, so this is new material waiting for a big-screen audience.

Ironically, Anderson (the author) said that Event Horizon was “extremely influential” when he penned the novels

“Space is scary—think of how terrifying it would be all alone out in the cold, dark, oblivion? I tried to put all my fears and paranoia into Nether Station, and powerful films like Event Horizon were extremely influential in the writing. I couldn’t imagine a better director for this project than Paul WS Anderson,” the author said in a statement.

Filmmaker Anderson said that the two novels have “all the ingredients for an unbelievably compelling and terrifying cinematic experience.”

“I’ve been a long-term fan of Kevin’s work, and to say it is cinematic is an understatement,” Paul WS said in a statement, adding: “I was thrilled to read Nether Station, the galleys of its sequel and also talk in detail with him about how he plans to expand the terrifying universe that he is creating. Lovecraftian cosmic horror, as experienced by a unique, young central character in Cammie Skoura, has all the ingredients for an unbelievably compelling and terrifying cinema experience.”

While Paul WS Anderson’s filmmaking career has been checkered (to say the least), with movies like Mortal Kombat (the 1995 one), Death Race and Resident Evil (the 2002 one and all its sequels), Event Horizon is a stone-cold classic haunted house in space movie and I am very, very excited to see what he does in that world again.

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
