The year ahead promises to be yet another one full of milestones for gaming. In fact, innovation is progressing so much that it can be hard to predict the latest trends in the space. We are certainly living in a golden age in that respect.

One look at smartphone gaming demonstrates just how far progression has come. Gone are the days of enjoying retro games like Snake on our chunky old Nokia devices, instead being treated to an array of graphically advanced and more sophisticated releases than mobile gaming has ever known. Console-quality titles are making the transition over to mobile, with games like Fortnite and PUBG recording solid success. Then you have popular casino creations where you can get free spins as part of a welcome bonus at casino.com, alongside puzzle games and brain teasers which have enabled games developers to tap into new audiences. Augmented reality games like Harry Potter: Wizards Unite have a dedicated community behind it also, alongside huge games like Among Us. There is certainly a large selection of smartphone games to choose from.

We are constantly inundated with video game trailers promoting the latest smartphone release, but that doesn’t mean that they’re all worth downloading. To help you kit your device out with the greatest games possible, here is a look at some of the best releases for your smartphone in 2021. All games featured are available on both iPhone and Android, by the way.

Pokemon Go

In terms of augmented reality games, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is a popular release, but Pokemon Go is a different animal altogether. One of the most popular smartphone games ever, it isn’t new, but it is still very much one of the biggest creations around at the moment. You can catch Pokemon on the bus or while walking the dog in this truly immersive experience. Players can also battle gyms and fellow trainers, catch legendary creatures, and fill up their Pokédex with various evolutions. A fun game with a large community behind it, Pokemon Go is still worth downloading

Monument Valley 2

With stunning visuals and artwork throughout, Monument Valley 2 has won a lot of plaudits of late. This Escher-esque puzzler tasks players with guiding a little girl and her mother through a variety of levels, usually containing illusions and perspective changes. A relaxing and enjoyable game to play, Monument Valley 2 is excellent.

Altos Odyssey

If sand surfing is your kind of thing, then Alto’s Odyssey is sure to satisfy all of your gaming needs. The game is fairly easy to master as you soak in the gorgeous backdrop of ancient buildings and weather cycles while carrying out various flips and tricks in order to get to the end. The game is simple to control, too, with players only needing to tap to jump. Alto’s Odyssey isn’t the most intricate game you’ll ever play, but it’s definitely fun.

Bloons TD 6

Serving up a feast of chaos and all-round mayhem, Bloons TD 6 is a blast. A classic 3D tower defence game, you can use monkeys as snipers alongside a whole host of other appealing features. The game has more tracks, more content, better co-op mode, and better graphics than previous versions, too.

Super Fowlst 2

An arcade-style platformer, Super Fowlst 2 involves playing as a chicken who is tasked with killing off demons. Not only does the game offer comical value due to the variety of hilarious ways you can destroy any demons in your path, but it’s highly entertaining too.

Other games worth downloading are The Room 4: Old Sins, Florence, and Tiny Bird Garden.
