How To Create A Home Game Room

June 7th, 2021 by Marc Comments

Most gamers dream of a dedicated space for their gaming. A gaming room can be somewhere to retreat for a great gaming session, with a dream setup for the ultimate gaming experience. It can be tough to know where to start to create a room like this though. Try some of these tips to make a space dedicated to your gaming hobby.

Create A Versatile Rec Room

If you share your house with people who aren’t as keen gamers as you are, you could compromise, and create a more versatile rec room. The ideal set-up for gaming can work well for other hobbies too. For example, if you’re a console gamer, the TV and sound system you want for games will work just as well for movies nights. You can get discounts on great electronics on NetVoucherCodes.co.uk to help you get started with this setup.

Your rec room could have comfy seating, a console, a great TV and sound system, board games, and other gaming options like a pool table or a pinball machine.

Choose A Theme

If you’re the only one who will use the gaming room, why not go all out with a theme? Whether you love Star Wars, Pokemon, or Spiderman, you can create a really fun room with themed decor. Look for wall decals, figurines to display, and themed items like wraps for your console controls.

You could mix together a few themes to show off more of your interests, for a room that is personalised just to you.

Create A Home Cinema

A large TV or a projector with a screen is great for movie nights with the family or with friends. Those giant screens with carefully designed surround sound are good for more than just movies though. They’re also great for a gaming marathon, or hosting friends for a gaming tournament.

Add in a mini-fridge for beers, soft drinks, or energy drinks, storage space for snacks, and something fun like a popcorn machine, and you’ll be set for the night, whether it’s for movies or video games.

Make An Arcade

What gaming enthusiast doesn’t dream of having their own arcade. Why not make one in your own home?

If you have the budget available, look out for retro arcade machines on sites like eBay, or in vintage shops. It can take some effort to hunt down machines like this, especially ones in good working order, but there are some out there if you persevere. If you can find old, broken machines, there are also lots of business out there who restore them, or you could work on them yourself if you have the know-how.

Decorate with some neon art pieces or large wall murals, and you’ve got your very own arcade to play in.

Get The Lighting Right

Lighting is an important part of any gaming setup. You need to get your lights set up so you aren’t straining your eyes peering at a screen in the dark, but aren’t getting your experience ruined due to glare on the screen. Spend some time planning out and experimenting with different lights in different positions to see what works best for you.

A range of lighting could work well. If you have different lights you can turn on and off as you need them, instead of one big overhead light, you can change up the lighting to suit the game you’re playing.

Have some fun with your lighting too, perhaps by adding neons or ambient lighting. LED lighting strips look great round gaming rigs.

Decorate With Gaming Equipment

Do you have any old gaming kit lying around? Could you turn any of it into decor?

If you have a range of old consoles, for example, you could put up shelves to display them in a timeline, showing your gaming history. Frame some marketing posters from your favourites games. Get custom wraps for your current kit to match your theme.

Get Colourful

One of the most fun parts of decorating a gaming room is that you can completely throw out all the rules that you’d normally use for decorating the rest of your house. It’s a great excuse to go wild with colour. Choose bright colours for your walls, or paint them a dark colour and bring in pops of colour through your furniture or artwork.

Have some fun with colours you wouldn’t use elsewhere. Perhaps take some inspiration from colours from the artwork of your favourite games.

Get The Seating Right

If you’re a PC gamer, make sure your chair is comfortable and supportive for long gaming sessions. A proper computer chair should support your lower back, make you sit with your feet firmly on the floor, and help you sit with your screen at eye level. An ergonomic setup will help you to avoid a bad back and other problems.

If you’re a console gamer, you can get specific gaming chairs designed for this purpose, that support your back while still being comfortable to lounge in. You can even get chairs with built-in speakers, or that will move and vibrate as you play.

If you’re going to host your mates for gaming parties, make sure you have enough seating to go around. If you don’t have room for a sofa or multiple gaming chairs, then beanbags can work well. They’re fun, comfortable, and can be easily shoved out of the way when you don’t need them.

Put In Plenty Of Storage

Storage can be used for practical reasons, and for display purposes. Put in a range of storage, depending on what you want to use it for.

Shelving and drawers work well for storing computer games or DVDs in their boxes. Cupboards are good for board games. Use open shelving to store things out of the way, and to display parts of your collections. Lots of gamers collect figurines and other great pieces that deserve to be shown off. Make sure there’s space to put them out so you can see and enjoy them.

Shelves can also be used to store your gaming kit. If you have more than one console, storing them on shelves keeps them easy to grab when you want them, but out of the way and tidy when you don’t.

Mount Your Consoles And Your TV

A wall-mounted TV works well for gaming and frees up some floor space if you don’t need a TV stand. You can mount your consoles too. This saves you space on shelves, and means you can easily connect your consoles to your TV, but still hide your ways. As an added bonus, it looks cool too and makes your consoles part of your decor.

To make things easier, put up hooks to hang up your controllers too. This keeps the right controller with the right console and makes them easy to grab when you want them.

Buy Good Speakers

Spend some time researching the best sound system for your setup and invest in the best speakers you can afford. The right sound system can make your gaming experience more enjoyable and more immersive.

Speakers mounted on stands give better sound, and work well for games and for watching movies on your setup. Surround sound can make things feel more immersive too, and make for an incredible gaming experience.

A gaming room can be a great addition to your home, giving you a space dedicated to fun and relaxation. However you decide to decorate it, invest in the best kit you can afford, so you can get the best gaming experience that you can.
