Jai Courtney in Talks To Play Batman Villain Deadshot in ‘Suicide Squad’

November 13th, 2014 by Andrew McCarroll Comments

Hollywood’s attempt to turn Jai Courtney into a franchise superstar is set to continue with the actor in talks for a major role in Warner Bros. “Suicide Squad”

Having already done a passable impression of a plank of wood in the turgid “A Good Day to Die Hard” and diet Hunger Games franchise “Divergent” along with playing Kyle Reese in the bafflingly titled “Terminator: Genesys”.

The 28-year-old Australian actor is reportedly set to star as Batman villain Floyd Lawton, a.k.a. Deadshot.

He is not the only actor in talks for movie which will be written and directed by David Ayer (Fury). With Margot Robbie confirmed as Harley Quinn, Tom Hardy will reportedly play Rick Flagg, and Jared Leto being courted to play The Joker. Will Smith is also in talks for a role, rumoured to be The Flash’s nemesis Digger Harkness, a.k.a. Captain Boomerang.

In the comics the Suicide Squad is an antihero team of incarcerated supervillains who act as deniable assets for the United States government, undertaking high-risk black ops missions in exchange for commuted prison sentences.

There has also been speculation that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jesse Eisenberg will reprise his role as Lex Luthor in the film.

Suicide Squad is released August 5th, 2016

Andrew McCarroll never quite built on the dizzying career heights that he hit at 6 years old, when as a member of the “Ghostbusters” he would charge his neighbours to remove any unwanted spectres. Now retired from slaying spooks, he spends his time obsessing over superheroes (especially Batman) and devouring shows like Dexter, Game of Thrones and Archer in a manner that would make Galactus proud.
