Ong Bak star Tony Jaa joins Fast and Furious 7

August 24th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

It looks like James Wan’s cast for Fast and Furious 7 won’t be pulling any punches. In addition to the MMA champion Rona Rousey who is in talks, Thai actor and martial arts expert Tony Jaa is said to have a role in the film according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Tony Jaa is best known to fans for his three Ong Bak films, although he also has recurring franchise roles in the The Bodyguard and The Protector series. The movie will actually be the first English-language film and studio picture that Jaa has made. It is not known yet whether his character is good or bad.

Jaa expressed his love of the franchise in an email to THR saying:

“I have been a big fan of the Fast and Furious franchise. The films are fast paced, fun and keep the audience involved. There is a great mix of humor and action, something I really appreciate. There is no better film to be involved in for a first U.S. studio production.”

When asked if he was looking forward to going fighting Vin Diesel or Dwayne Johnson and who would win in such a fight, Jaa responded :

“Having a chance to work with Vin Diesel and The Rock already makes me a winner.”

The James Wan film stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez,  Tyrese Gibson, and Jason Statham with more of the franchise mainstays expected to be confirmed later on.

Fast and Furious 7 is gearing up to start production in September and is expected to shoot fast and furiously (sorry), so that they can meet the previously announced July 11, 2014 release date.
