Just yesterday, came the announcement that Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman was stepping down from directing the long gestating Ghostbusters 3 following the death of Harold Ramis. He will stay on as a producer.
Nikki Finke is reporting that directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller are in talks to helm the project.
Lord and Miller are on quite the tear in recent years with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street (which will see a sequel released later this year), and their most recent hit, The LEGO Movie.
All of Lord and Miller’s films have gone on to gross over $200 million at the global box office.
Set to begin production next year in New York City, the storyline is rumored to focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters with cameos from the original stars written into the script.
