RUMOR: Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen considered for role in Doctor Strange?

February 21st, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

It seems on the heels of yesterday’s news that directors are being eyed for Marvel’s Doctor Strange, we have our first casting rumor!

Bleeding Cool are reporting that after seeing Nikilaj Arcel’s name as a possible director, it brought up a rumor concerning Arcel’s Royal Affair star Mads Mikkelsen. Apparently he’s in, or has been, somewhere in the mix for the film’s early casting discussions.

Bleeding Cool adds:

“I’m still trying to find another source on that, or to clarify which part it would be, and whether or not Mikkelsen might have already passed or been passed over. And there were other names mentioned at the same time, that I’m also still investigating…

It doesn’t necessarily follow that Arcel would bring Mikkelsen or Mikkelsen bring Arcel, of course. We could just as easily see the actor on board with Levine, or Israelite.”

It worth noting that Marvel wanted Mikkelsen for the role of Malekith in Thor: The Dark World, but the actor was forced to drop out due to prior commitments to Hannibal.

So Marvel are already keen on him, but will his schedule allow it this time around?

What role can you see him as? Doctor Strange? What about Baron Mordo or Dormammu?
