Sam Raimi says ‘anything is possible’ when it comes to making another Spider-man with Toby Maguire

April 6th, 2022 by Marc Comments

So, we’re all pacing the floor at FTN HQ waiting for Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness on May 5th for several reasons – firstly, yes, we’re mugs for crossovers and cannot wait to see who will be appearing from Marvel’s onscreen history but a big aspect of it is to see what Spider-man and Evil Dead director Sam Raimi does with his first movie in the MCU.

Raimi of course will always be known for his horror direction with the untouchable Evil Dead series but he is also the man who brought us the campy but incredibly fun Toby Maguire Spider-man trilogy.

So, obviously we, like everyone else, are wondering if Sam Raimi and Toby Maguire, left, – who recently appeared in Spider-man: No Way Home – might get back together for the fourth entry in his Spider-man series.

I mean, it would be very cool to see what that Peter Parker did after the events of Spider-man 3 – although, for the record, we’re keener to have Andrew Garfield’s Spider-man back – so, in a new interview, Raimi was asked if there was any chance of it happening and, while the majority of the interview is basically him saying he can’t really comment on Doctor Strange or MCU stuff (check it out here), he does discuss coming back for Spider-man and he’s pretty keen on the idea.

“I’ve come to realise after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups,” says Raimi, left.

“I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn’t a Spider-Man movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.”

Did Sony/Marvel just tease a third Andrew Garfield Spider-man movie?

On working with Marvel in the MCU, he had nothing but praise: “It’s like the world’s best toy box to be able to play at Marvel. I’d love to come back and tell another tale, especially with the great management they’ve got there.”

We’re hearing all sorts of rumours about Maguire and/or Garfield returning after the phenomenal reception No Way Home got, so we’d imagine there’s a very good chance we’ll see either – or both – Spider-man[s] back at some point in the future. Raimi directing Maguire again? Well, that would be perfection.

Would you like to see this happen? Let me know in all the usual ways, guys.
