SDCC 2022: Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira returning as Rick and Michonne for limited Walking Dead series

July 22nd, 2022 by Marc Comments

More Walking Dead news from SDCC 2022 although it’s not what we expected.

Ever since Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes exited the series in 2018, we had been told he would return for three feature-length movies to wrap his story.

In 2018 content chief Scott M Gimple said: “Right now, we’re working on three but there’s flexibility in that. … Over the next several years, we’re going to be doing specials, new series are quite a possibility, high-quality digital content, and then some content that defies description at the moment. We’re going to dig into the past and see old characters. We’re going to introduce new characters and new situations.”

However, it’s just been confirmed that, yes, Rick is coming back but it won’t be in a series of movies.

From the convention, we learned that Lincoln and Danai Gurira will be returning as Rick and Michonne for a six-part limited series to wrap up both their story arcs.

What do you all think? Is this a fitting send off for Rick and Michonne? Let us know.

We also got this poster for the limited series:

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
