A mini version of the Super Nintendo (SNES) is in the works.
That’s according to an article on Den of Geek which claims that Destructoid writer Jonathan Holmes spoke to several anonymous store owners recently were they all claimed to have attended a “behind closed doors event” held by Nintendo.
It was at this event it was confirmed that the SNES Classic is in the works and that it could be out by this coming Christmas.
The news comes after the NES Classic Mini went on sale last year and sold out within days before being discontinued. Copies are currently being sold on eBay and other retail stores for astronomical prices.
It will be interesting to see if the SNES truly is coming and if Nintendo will produce enough to satisfy demand.
UPDATE:
Nintendo has confirmed the above news.
The Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System will launch in the UK on 29 September.
The microconsole will again launch with 21 games pre-loaded onto the system – including the never-released Starfox 2. Classics such as Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past are also included.
