Star Wars, Ant-man, Hobbit, DC TV and Penny Dreadful and more heading to SDCC

July 9th, 2014 by Marc Comments

All you lucky, lucky people heading to SDCC… you have a lot of events to get to. We seriously don’t know where we’d start…

The Hollywood Reporter has some cool details on the line-up at Hall H at SDCC and there is some great stuff coming.

Warner Bros. has  announced that its panel on Saturday, July 26, at 10 a.m. will include The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Mad Max: Fury Road and Jupiter Ascending. Director Peter Jackson will  there to talk The Hobbit and director-writer George Miller will be there with the first footage from Mad Max starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.

It’s curious that there has been no Batman V Superman announcement, especially since it’s been widely reported that the first footage from the movie will be screened there.

There will also be a lot of Batman 75th celebrating going on including: “all-star panel appearances by Batman talent as well as a rare display of some of the canon’s most famous film costumes in history — those worn by Christian Bale, George Clooney, Val Kilmer and Michael Keaton — on display in the DC Entertainment booth. The character will also appear on the cover of the Con’s official souvenir book and on a Con-exclusive T-shirt designed by DC Entertainment co-publisher and legendary artist Jim Lee.”

Lee will also participate in the Batman 75: Legends of the Dark Knight panel discussion with veteran Batman creatives Frank Miller, Grant Morrison, Denny O’Neil, Neal Adams, current series writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, as well as DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. The panel will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24.

On top of all this, Dark Horizons are reporting that Michael Douglas “will be a part of Marvel’s panel for Ant-Man on Saturday night ahead of the film’s shoot next month in Atlanta. Douglas will only be popping in and out that night as the following morning he’s giving a cancer speech to a group of surgeons in upstate New York.”

“Immediately following that panel, WBTV and DC Entertainment will hold their three hour special event which includes pilot screenings of “Gotham” and “The Flash” along with footage from “Constantine” and the third season of “Arrow”. That last show’s title star Stephen Amell will be on hand to MC the event and will introduce select stars and producers from each of the four series.

In other TV Con news, Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful” is set to hold a panel on Thursday night. Aisha Tyler will MC the panel which will include the show’s creator John Logan and the three hunky young male stars of the series – Josh Hartnett (Ethan Chandler), Reeve Carney (Dorian Gray) and Harry Treadaway (Victor Frankenstein). Sadly no Eva Green or Timothy Dalton.”

Starwars.com has also confirmed there will be a Rebels panel but nothing for Episode VII.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
