Starfleet now looking for ensigns in Ireland

January 15th, 2013 by Marc Comments

Starfleet International is an organisation comprised of fans that share a common love for Star Trek, be it the movies or one of the series. For over 35 years Starfleet has provided Star Trek fans a way to meet each other, make friends, have fun, give back to their communities, and show that the dream of Gene Roddenberry can live long and prosper.

The values that make Starfleet such a success in multiple countries are the same values we wish to share with Irish Trek fans aboard the USS Cuchulain. Our members try to get together once a month, locations and activities change based on what the members want to do. It could be going to see a movie, or even social drinks.

We pick activities that everyone attending can enjoy. We also take great pride in the charity work that SFI does, and we try to keep this going in Ireland by helping out with charity events and raising money. Whatever we are doing, you can be sure that the Trek talk will be good and the “craic” will be mighty!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
