Take a look at Lawrence Kasdan’s handwritten screenplay pages for Empire Strikes Back!

Thanks to Slash Film we get a look at a rare gem from Star Wars history.

Screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan donated his original handwritten first draft of The Empire Strikes Back. The WGA West archive has the only copy in existence, other than the original, in addition to later drafts with notes by Kasdan himself.

There’s a lot of goodies here. On one of the pages you can see Kasdan’s original handwritten screenplay page with Yoda talking to Luke. There’s also a page from the first draft of the printed screenplay with Kasdan’s handwritten notes, one says  “Figure out a speech pattern for Yoda”.

A page that shows  I’d just as soon kiss a Wookiee. There’s also the original handwritten version of “I thought they smelled bad on the outside.”

But the most awesome might be Lawrence’s original handwritten page for the now famous Han and Leia I love you scene, which of course has different dialogue (Harrison Ford famously came up with the classic “I know” on set while they were shooting the scene.)

I think this is a nice May the Fourth find. So enjoy, and may the fourth be with you always!
