Vincent D’Onofrio hints at BIG things coming for Daredevil in the Marvel cinematic universe

September 6th, 2014 by Marc Comments

With Vincent D’Onofrio playing Kingpin – Wilson Fisk – in Netflix’s Daredevil TV series we reckon it’s only a matter of time until we see him – and the other characters – in some of the Marvel movies too. After all, Fisk is a big deal in the Marvel universe and not just against Matt Murdock’s blind hero.

Chatting to Men’s Journal, D’Onofrio was chatty about filming and, while wisely guarded, he did reveal some very exciting tidbits for us fans to chew on: “It’s all gritty. Everything is really impressive. They seem to know what they’re doing over at Marvel. I think ever since Downey and [Jon] Favreau did Iron Man and proved that comic book movies could be really cool they’ve just embraced that and taken it to the next level. They keep knocking it out of the park. This Netflix series that we’re filming right now, it’s going to be so amazing to watch. We’re doing these incredible, iconic scenes every single day. I have the best character; I play one of the best characters I’ve read in a long time. I haven’t had this much fun with a role for many years.”

On how familiar he was with Fisk before playing the part, he said: “I knew a bit about Wilson Fisk. I had seen the movies. I saw other interpretations. But for this, they really wanted everything to be fresh. They’re operating like they have been doing their movies. I’m finding most of my inspiration for Fisk coming from the old artwork, artists like Frank Miller.”

When the interviewer jokingly says he’s looking forward to Kingpin Vs Tony Stark (D’Onofrio and Robert Downey Jnr are good friends) the actor teasingly says: “It’s not impossible! They have all kinds of plans. I think this Daredevil show is going to be the start of some very exciting crossovers.”

Daredevil follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

The cast includes Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Peter Shinkoda as original character Hachiro and Rosario Dawson in an unspecified role.

Daredevil is executive produced by series showrunner Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Angel) and Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods, Lost, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, in addition to writing the first two episodes of Daredevil), along with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Smallville, Heroes).

Daredevil is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
