Call of Duty: Ghosts Announced

It’s that time of the year again when Activision push out their latest COD and call it a revolution. It will sell by the boatload and make some undeserving people millionaires.
The question is in a world where ethics tell us cloning is wrong, why the hell do Activision get away with it time and time again?

Are we as consumers just way too stupid? Do we like to torture ourselves by repeating the same task over and over again?

Yes Black Ops is different from Modern Warfare but only by a few steps.
The multiplayer of Modern Warfare 3 is miles different than Black Ops 2 but oddly the same. The maps may change, weapons may change but the core that has kept COD so successful isn’t about to change for one simple reason… the money it makes.

Is this all about to change?

We will get our first glimpse of the new game at Microsoft’s big reveal at the end of the month, right now there is just a simple teaser and all we really know is that it isn’t part of the Modern Warfare or Black Ops series but a game within itself.
Asda have said on pre-orders (that were set up about 3 minutes after the announcement) that the game will be set in the future and use modern and futuristic weapons, which tells us very little.

The exciting thing is the next gen possibilities and the fact this game will run on a completely new engine.
Thing is since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the game engine has pretty much stayed the same. Yes it has been updated, patched and tweaked but it honestly is an outdated engine. The recent Black Ops 2 got a lot of flak for using the same engine but that’s all going to change.
This new engine is designed for the next gen, it will have destructible environments, probably tonnes of polygons and obviously high definition.
But is it enough?
Will this push to the next gen and a fresh new engine reinvigorate a franchise that is so stale it’s almost mouldy?

Don’t get me wrong I still love playing COD, there isn’t an experience quite like it but recently I’ve fallen a little out of love. What was once an exciting fun experience has turned into a laborious slog into how not to get killed by lagging servers, players who are beyond good and bad spawns.

What could COD do to revitalise the franchise?

Because for me destructible environments and high definition isn’t enough, I already have that in Battlefield.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on 5th November.
With a next gen release to follow.
