WATCH: First look at Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive gameplay footage

May 8th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Insomniac’s upcoming Xbox One-exclusive parkour shooter Sunset Overdrive has finally revealed some gameplay footage.

Set in 2027, the game has a stylized look that reminds me a bit of Borderlands meets Crackdown with a bit of Saint’s Row thrown in.

The open-world traversal mechanics feature an Infamous  type parkour. The video shows off hialrious respawn animations where you can get dumped from a flying saucer, tossed out of a van, or rise from a crypt with a mummy imitation.

Insomniac is known for its guncraft, from Ratchet & Clank to Resistance. Sunset Overdrive will be no different. The game will feature some truly astonishing weapons like a harpoon gun that fires powerful harpoons laced with the Overcharge energy drink to attract enemies. or the bowling ball cannon, or guns that shoot LPs, roman candles or the teddy bear launcher, which fires off cute little teddy bears strapped with sticks of dynamite that cause massive explosions on impact.

There will also be a magic system called amps to make more sense in the contemporary setting. There are over fifty Amps and a vast number of possible combinations, Amps allow you to do everything from fling  lightning or summon the Grim Reaper.

Sunset Overdrive releases  exclusively on the Xbox One later this year.

Microsoft also announced today that a “Day One Edition” of the game will be released with exclusive digital content.

That version includes the following items:

the “Nothin’ but the Hits” gun, an overcharged version of the vinyl record-launching High Fidelity gun

the “It’s Me! Fizzie!” outfit, which lets you dress up as FizzCo’s menacing cartoon mascot

and the “Hardcore Hammer,” a melee hammer made from a bat and spiked dumbbells.
