It looks like we’re finally getting a sequel to Gladiator.
Wut?
Yup, the 2000 classic starring Russel Crowe, directed by Ridley Scott is to get a sequel as the director has started preparations on it.
Now, don’t panic. We know a looooooooong time ago word was that Scott wanted to make s sequel that followed Maximus into the next world. Thankfully, that’s not happening.
So what’s it going to be?
While Crowe’s Maximus character met his end in the classic original film, Gladiator 2 will follow the continuing story of Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), The youth was the nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), the weaselly son of Roman leader Marcus Aurelius who murdered his father seized the throne and wound up in the gladiator ring with Maximus, who though mortally wounded, skewered the emperor before fading into the great beyond to reunite with his slain wife and son. Maximus saved the boy and his mother while avenging his own family, and left a strong impression on the young Lucius.
While the first movie was a Dreamworks movie, the report is that Scott wants to make this one himself under his Scott Free production house.
We’re glad it’s not going down the supernatural path and if he can capture that lightning in a bottle again then we’re on board.
Are you not entertained?
