Batgirl set photo suggests Batman and Robin appearance

January 11th, 2022 by Marc Comments

Ooooooooh… this is interesting from the set of the currently filming in Scotland Batgirl movie,

A new image from the movie seems to show a rural that will be on the streets of Gotham and the mural, below, has Batman protecting the streets of Gotham but alongside him is… Robin!

Now, we know that in the movie Michael Keaton will be portraying Batman in the movie with The Flash now looking like it will be Ben Affleck’s last outing as the Caped Crusader leaving Keaton’s Batman as the DCEU’s only Gotham Guardian (here).

Now, the inclusion of Robin here is interesting for several reasons.

Firstly, this is the first mention of, or rather hint, of Robin appearing in the movie.

Secondly, this has us wondering if Robin’s inclusion, even if it’s only in this mural, is a set-up for the planned Nightwing movie (here) and, if so, could this mean the rumours of Love and Monsters’ Dylan O’Brien being cast indicate that we have our Robin/Nightwing?

Thirdly, if it is Robin, which Robin will it be? We know that the dead Robin that was shown in Batman V Superman was Dick Grayson and not Jason Todd as we all thought (here) – will Affleck’s writing out of the DCEU mean that this is reset and Grayson, the first Robin, is alive and well again?

And finally, it has us wondering which Robin this is the Keaton universe as we know that the plan for those movies originally was to have Robin laid by a black actor, with then big star Damon Wayans  signed on and paid – though never appearing –  as the character. This version of Robin has since been made canon in the Keaton comic series (here). The Robin in the artwork is clearly white, so has this Batman had several Robins too?

Batgirl will star Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl and JK Simmons as James Gordon; it will debut on HBO Max later this year.
