BIG RUMOUR: Captain Britain movie coming from Guy Ritchie?

September 12th, 2018 by Marc Comments

Before we write anymore here, we need to make it clear that this is RUMOUR of the highest order. However, we felt we’d report it because, well, if it is true, then it’s really cool.

But, we do urge you proceed with caution…

With the news that Danny Boyle’s Jame Bond 25 is currently looking for a new director it seems that the crew are at a loose end… but possibly not for long.

Here’s the report from Ainititcool who have a Uk source that claims Marvel’s may capitalise on the few months of nothing to do:

“I work at various movie studios in the UK and have been situated at Pinewood for a few weeks, and I’m moving to Cardiff on a project soon. I haven’t seen anything about this online anywhere, so I thought id send the info on to you: Space at Pinewood has been booked for November & December 2018 to hold auditions for a Marvel project called CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND THE BLACK KNIGHT. The name of the director booked in for all these dates is GUY RITCHIE. Marvel seems to be moving fast with it to fill in the space left behind by Danny Boyle’s aborted Bond 25. Everyone is excited because it looks like another few months of solid work when we thought we would have to wait a while.”

Now, setting aside the last we heard was Guy Ritchie wanted into the DC movies (here) we think it’s very unlikely something like this could move ahead without even a hint on the horizon…

Would it be MCU? Standalone? Who is making it…

Honestly, we doubt there’s anything to this. That said, it would be fun to see a quintessentially British hero step into the MCU.

In the comics Captain Britain is a man called Brian Maddock – he was given abilities by Merlyn the magician – yes, that one – and his daughter, Roma. The Black Knight is Dane Whitman who has a magical cursed sword that has been around since the days of King Arthur and it is Dane’s job to put right the things his evil uncle used the sword for in the years gone by.

Honestly, this is something we’d love to see… but we just can’t imagine it happening.

Thoughts?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
