Well, Danny Boyle may be gone, but the James Bond 25 movie has a new inhabitant in the director’s chair.
While we were hopeful we’d see Shaun of the Dead’s Edgar Wright in the role, it has actually gone to Maniac and True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga.
Along with the new director it seems that, understandably, the movie will have a delayed released date according to the tweet below from the official twitter feed: “Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig announced today that #Bond25 will begin filming at Pinewood Studios on 4 March 2019 under the helm of director, Cary Joji Fukunaga with a worldwide release date of 14 February 2020.″
The movie was originally set for a November 8th, 2019 release.
Fukunaga is an interesting choice having given us season one of True Detective and also the Idris Elba-led Beast Of No Nations on Netflix.
Boyle left the movie over creative differences – the maddest of which comes from The Sun who reported Boyle couldn’t see eye-to-eye with producer Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig who wanted to kill James Bond: “There were discussions about killing off Bond in dramatic fashion at the end,” they report.
“It would also leave it open for a twist in the next instalment — either Bond hadn’t died or there could be a Doctor Who-esque regeneration with a new actor.”
However, as crazy as killing Bond sounds, it could certainly explain the idea that Bond has looked like several different people over his career… and given that there seems to be a big drive to cast a black actor in the role – Idris Elba the constant favourite, although he said he wouldn’t want the gig – then killing one Bond and giving the codename to another person would be a great way to do this… so maybe not as crazy a rumour as we thought.
As it is, Daniel Craig is set to reprise the role for the fifth – and final? – time in this outing.
Let us know what you all think. Will Bond die in the new movie?
