We’ve known for a while now that The LEGO Batman Movie director, Chris McKay was making a big screen Nightwing movie (here), but after the official slate of upcoming DC movies was announced at SDCC a couple of weeks back, it was noticeable by its absence (here).
It was so noticeable that someone took to Twitter to ask McKay why it wasn’t on the official slate and the director gave us a very reassuring answer: because he’s not prepared to rush it.
“I’ve turned down films because they were backed into a release date that made it difficult to make a great film,” was his reasoning behind it.
And we’re just delighted with that. Nightwing (along with any comic character) deserves to be done maximum justice and we’ve known for a while that McKay is a big Nightwing fan (here) and why the character is so important to him, so when he says he’s waiting so it can be as great as it needs to be, we believe him
I think you just did, Adam. I’ve turned down films because they were backed into a release date that made it difficult to make a great film.
