While not too many people are aware of it, a third Cloverfield movie – previously called God Particle and maybe still called that – was set for release on February 2nd (it’s been all over the place with the most recent dates being Feb 24th and then Feb 2nd).
However, now that’s not going to happen.
Again.
After the success of Cloverfield in 2008 and then 10 Cloverfield Lane in 2016 – both making well over $100m on minuscule budgets – it seemed an obvious decision to release a third movie in the movie anthology series (if the movies are related we’ve yet to discover how) and God Particle became the one.
The new movie will now be released on April 20th and will star David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Bruhl, and Chris O’Dowd and will be about “a team of astronauts who make a terrifying discovery that challenges all they know about the fabric of reality, as they desperately fight for survival.”
Given that we hadn’t had a single piece of marketing for the movie or even a title, this decision doesn’t real shock us but given that 10 Cloverfield Lane came out of nowhere (here) we weren’t sure what to expect.
But we’re big fans of both Cloverfield entries and we like the cast of this one, so we’re optimistic.
