While no-one may ever know exactly what happened when Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow left Star Wars Episode IX – be it because he was unbearable (here) or because, as we also heard, he wanted Luke Skywalker to be alive going into his movie, we will always wonder what could have been.
Given the events of The Last Jedi – we make no apology but we have serious issues with that movie – we wonder if his idea to keep Luke alive may have been a better idea all round.
Alas, it’s not to be but the way he’s talking about it now, he seems like he’s moved on… and honestly gets what Star Wars is all about:
“I don’t want to talk too much about it because I don’t want to affect the way that fans get to see these films. When we were kids, these movies came to us from far away. They were a gift. And the more we talk about how they’re made, the more it reveals that they’re just movies. But they’re not just movies, they’re more than that.
“Beyond that, I got the opportunity to tell a story that is a celebration of everything I believe in, I got to tell it to George Lucas and I got to tell it to Luke Skywalker, and those are experiences I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
Man, he got the go-ahead from Lucas and Hamill and had the script finished, so he must have been pretty damned close to ready before Disney called it a day on him.
Maybe someday his script will ‘leak’ online. We can but hope.
