While we’ve all been waiting patiently to see the return of Luke, Leia, Han and the droids in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we’ve been wondering who else from the original trilogy (and possibly prequels?) we’ll see…

Well, remember we speculated in June that everyone’s favourite Mon Calamari admiral was back (here)?

Well, guess what! It looks like he’s back! Say it with us: “It’s a trap!”

Yes, actor Tim Rose, who played the Admiral in Return of the Jedi, has been chatting to MakingStarWars and confirmed that he was returning: “I’d like to think I gave Ackbar something special which you can tell. I think you can. I can tell when I see my friends who do specialised and full body suit work no matter what character they go into; I can tell you exactly who it is because I know their movements so well. What I can say about the new movie is that if you were a fan of the original three, you’re going to absolutely love this one to bits… You can expect a smorgasbord of people you love.”

However, he added that the secrecy around the movie is frustrating: “I’m very frustrated by that. Out of the need to be secret, we’re not actually able to get everything we need to do our jobs as well as we could… And as someone who has been doing it for 35 years, I find it very frustrating.”

It’s so cool to think that Ackbar is back… we saw him a young warrior in The Clone Wars TV series and we’ll see him as a grizzled old warrior (probably)… leading the resistance? We wouldn’t imagine him anywhere else…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
