Some very cool Tron news tonight, guys!
You may recall in the last couple of months we learned that a third Tron movie was still being discussed (here) and we learned too that a series was in development for Disney+ but never saw work start on it (here), leaving us wondering what the heck Disney were planning to do with the franchise.
Well, now we may have an idea… and it’s pretty exciting stuff.
In a new interview on Light the Fuse with Mitchell Leib, the President of Music & Soundtracks at Disney, it was revealed that Daft Punk – who scored TRON: Legacy – are in talks to come back for a third movie!
“We’re looking at making a sequel to Tron [Legacy] now. We’re making a Tron 3,” Leib said.
He also said they have “a really phenomenal script that we’re very excited about” has been written.
He went on: “Whereas the timing wasn’t right to have done it years ago, I think we feel like the timing is right now and we learned a lot of lessons from that last movie.
Also very excitingly, he confirmed that Legacy director Joe Kosinski is possibly returning: “The right and first thing to do is to bring Daft Punk back and see if they want to [return]… We don’t even know who will be directing yet. We’re hopeful that Joe Kosinski will come back and do another one. A lot of things gotta fall into the right places.”
We do know that a third Tron movie was planned in 2017 called Tron: Ascension (here) with Jared Leto attached to star as the villain of the piece – called Ares – and we’re hearing rumours that this is still the plan.
So Leto to star, Kosinski to direct and Daft Punk to score? Man, let’s hope the nerdy stars align for this!
Let me know your thoughts, gang. Are you excited for a third Leto movie? Or are you tired waiting? Let me know…
