Daniel Radcliffe set to play Igor in Landis’ thoughtful origins tale?

The long-rumoured Paul McGuigan and Max Landis Frankenstein project is finally moving a head it seems…

Yes, aintitcool are reporting that the movie will be told from the point of view of Igor and will be a as “a tale of friendship and redemption”.

But the big news right now is that the role of Igor will be plyed by… Harry Potter? Yes, Daniel Radcliffe will have the hump in the story. Probably.

Talking a couple of years ago when the movie first started doing the rumour rounds, Max Landis talkied about what the movie would be: “I began to pick apart our knowledge of Frankenstein and discovered that the public’s idea of this myth comes from a million different places…I became committed to recontextualizing it all so it all worked in one story. By the end of the day, yeah it’s a period piece, yes it’s from Igor’s perspective, but man it’s cool….it’s the best thing I’ve written.”

He spoke with ainitcool this week and said: ” it’s not some “dark and gritty retelling/bad ass action reimagining,” that’s not what I do, that’s not what I’m interested in writing. Sure, a lot of my stuff is dark, and this does have dark bits and bad ass action, but it’s ultimately about characters.

“And that’s what’s funny about it being a retelling of Frankenstein. I’m going to pose you a funny question here: When did the character Igor the Hunchbacked Assistant first appear in the Frankenstein Mythos?

“So I started watching ALL of the Frankenstein movies [and read Shelley’s original book], from Mel Brooks to Peter Cushing to Robert Deniro, and realized that the only time Igor’s actually been (Doctor?) Victor (Henry?) Frankenstein’s assistant was in the f~@kingMonster Mash!

“[So i wanted to] do it in an intelligent, hopefully, thoughtful way, about friendship and science, genius and madness, love and ambition, life and death?”

Paul McGuigan’shas directed four episodes of the BBC’s Sherlock.
