Some interesting news about the upcoming Doctor Stange in the Multiverse of Madness as it seems we know who will be, fittingly, scoring the movie.
It seems that the legendary Danny Elfman, who scored Batman and Batman Returns has gotten the gig and I’m very excited for that news. He is replacing Michael Giachino, who scored the first Doctor Strange movie.
Of course, Batman isn’t the only bit of superhero awesome Elfman, left, has done with his being the man behind Spider-man and Spider-man 2 as well as Age of Ultron for the MCU. He also scored Joss Whedon’s Justice League (here) and yes, this put a lot of fans’ noses out of joint and, while I can’t wait to hear Junkie XL’s score on the upcoming Snyder Cut, I loved Elfman’s score on that movie.
But there’s another connection here, with the Doctor Strange sequel being directed by Sam Raimi, who Elfman worked with on the Spider-man movies (as well as on Darkman, A Simple Plan and Oz the Great and Powerful), so there’s an established connection between the two creatives.
“I am starting to do bits of pre-work for Doctor Strange 2 that Sam Raimi’s directing,” says Elfman, “even though I don’t start it for some months, there’s bits of recorded music they need for the sets.”
For the sequel Benedict Cumberbatch is returning as the titular sorcerer supreme and Elizabeth Olsen will also be appearing as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on March 25, 2022.
