David Arquette thinks Neve Campbell can return for future Scream movies as Jenna Ortega talks new bloodthirty Ghostface

June 8th, 2022 by Marc Comments

We reported a couple of days ago that Scream 6 is going to be very different compared to the previous five as it will not feature the star of the story… Neve Campbell’s Sydney Preescott (here).

Campbell said at the time: “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream [and] I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”

We’ve heard a few reports of what she was offered and for how long she’d be in the movie but we can’t confirm any of it but needless to day, you nor I would turn it down, however, Campbell IS the face of the Scream franchise, she’s great in the series and it its [still] beating heart. No longer, it seems.

Now her former co-star David Arquette, left, whose character Dewey was one of the main three until he was killed off in Scream (5), has spoken out about a Scream movie without Sydney at its core: “I’d love for her to be a part of it,” he says.

“A Scream movie without Sidney is kind of unfortunate, but I understand her decision. It’s all a business in a way, they have to balance all these elements to fit a budget and produce a film.”

While budgetary issues may have led to Campbell’s departure, Arquette seems to think – as we said in our earlier article – that she can return to the series down the line: “She [can] absolutely be in future ones, but I think it’s up to fans to call for that in the future.”

We hope he’s right; the idea of her dying off screen would be a tough pill to swallow and one I’m not convinced fans would take sitting down, so leaving her alone in the next installment with the door still open for her to come back would be the smart, the only, thing to do.

ur voice heard and tell the studio you want Campbell back as Sydney, then sign this petition.

Meanwhile, returning as Tara, right, from the previous movie, star Jenna Ortega said that fans should get ready because in the sixth movie, Ghostface is more brutal and brings the gory in ways we haven’t seen in the franchise before: “Ghostface gets a lot more intimidating,” she says.

“I just read part of the script, and it just gets more and more gory. I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we’ve ever seen, which I think will really be fun to shoot.”

I’m a massive fan of the Scream franchise and one thing I love is how, while the kills are vicious, they usually aren’t gorefests – I really don’t care for gory movies unless they’re one of the handful that does it right – so I hope the Scream franchise remembers that Ghostface is a knife killer at heart and the series doesn’t head down the Saw or Hostel route… one of the things I loved about the last movie was that it managed to stay true to its roots and be vicious without going over the top, proving that a knife can be enough to make the audience really squirm in their seats.

Anyways, that’s where we are in the Scream news… are you looking forward to a Scream without Syndey Prescott? Feels weird even writing that…

Scream 6 is set to begin film this summer, hitting screens in March 2023 with Courtney Cox, Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding all reprising their Scream [5] roles.
