So you may recall the reports that Deadpool director and visual-effects veteran Tim Miller was the favourite to direct the next Terminator movie under the watchful eye of the series’ creator James Cameron (here).
Well, guess what?
It’s now official.
A new event that has been announced for September 19th in LA (all details below) and it’s been sold as this: “Terminator: A Conversation With James Cameron and Tim Miller… Join filmmakers James Cameron and Tim Miller for an exclusive conversation about the upcoming Terminator!”
So from this we can gleam several things:
Miller is indeed onboard to direct.
Cameron is involved.
The movie is likely just called Terminator as the first teaser poster at the bottom of this page seems to confirm.
On top of this, we know that Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed he’ll return again (here) for the franchise and Cameron has recently hinted that the movie may go more towards the digital side of things: “It’s easy to remember fondly the things that kick off a franchise. It’s hard to keep a franchise vigorous, and relevant,” Cameron said.
“I haven’t had my hand on the tiller since Terminator 2, and that was 1991. So what’s that? Twenty-six years? But look, I think it’s possible to tell a great Terminator story now, and it’s relevant. We live in a digital age, and Terminator ultimately, if you can slow it down, is about our relationship with our own technology, and how our technology can reflect back to us—and in the movie, literally, in a human form that is a nemesis and a threat.”
So there you have it. Should the Terminator franchise be left to die or are you excited to get Cameron’s fingerprints on it again?
Let us know.
