Deleted Hawkeye Scene Revealed, and Falcon’s Hopes for Cap 3!

September 2nd, 2014 by Todd Black Comments

With the impending release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, there’s a lot of news and reveals coming from both this movie and the possibilities of Captain America 3.

First, it was rumored that Hawkeye was meant to be in Winter Soldier, not so far fetched being he’s an Agent of Shield, but the scene got cut.

Screen Rant talked with Joe Russo about the scene and he revealed what it was meant to be:

“What it was going to be, we were trying to complicate the relationship between Cap and his S.H.I.E.L.D agent friends. If Hawkeye got a call from S.H.I.E.L.D saying Captain America is a fugitive, would he listen to that call or not listen to that call? That sequence actually was heartbreaking for us to cut it. I think it ultimately might have been a conflict with Renner’s schedule. But there was a great sequence where Hawkeye was chasing Cap through Washington D.C. there was an awesome sequence where they confronted each other in a ravine on the outskirts of D.C. and Hawkeye was shooting a series of arrows closing in on Cap, Cap closing in on him. And then Cap took him down and he realized for the first time that Hawkeye was trying to trick S.H.I.E.L.D, where he whispered something into Cap’s ear that Cap had a tracker on his suit and to punch Hawkeye to make it look real, because there was a Quinjet hovering above where they were watching the feedback back at S.H.I.E.L.D.

So it was a cool sequence. But look, there’s a million iterations of films, and especially when dealing with Marvel movies where characters can come in or come out during the creative process. And you keep working and working like a Rubik’s Cube till you find the right configuration where everything lines up. So even though we lost that sequence, I think we may have streamlined the movie and made it a little bit more propulsive.”

Interesting huh? Hawkeye has been getting the short end of the stick in Marvel movies, maybe this scene would’ve helped his street cred. Oh well…there’s always Avengers 2…

Meanwhile, a guy who WAS in Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie aka Falcon, talked during Wizard World about his “desires” for Captain America 3…

“Cap and Falcon go looking for Winter Soldier. They find him. They go through this traumatic ordeal of him transforming back into Bucky. Then, once he goes back to Bucky and we get all the craziness out of his head, then we become a three-man duo – he’s got a shield, he’s got an arm, and he’s got wings – and we go out, and we save the world. Cue theme song.”

Clearly he’s joking in part. And he’s not done. If you’ve been noticing the comics news recently, Falcon is going to become Captain America in the Marvel Universe soon. And Mackie had thoughts on that as well…

“If I was Cap, it would be more like Batman. Like, ‘Why is Cap just whooping people’s ass, like all the time?’ Brother Cap is a whole different movie. That’s when it gets real.”

Oh yeah…he went there.
