Dwayne Johnson pitching Black Adam Vs Justice League Vs Suicide Squad Vs Justice Society?

September 25th, 2022 by Marc Comments

We’ve reported before on how it seems that Dwayne Johnson, star of the upcoming DCEU entry Black Adam, has a plan to embed himself deep in the DC universe and to have a say over the direction it all takes moving forward and, if this new rumour is true, he seems himself as the Thanos of the DCEU. I mean, that’s litterly Darkseid but whatever.

The star touted that ‘the hierarchy of the DC universe is about to change’, regarding Black Adam and this could be what exactly he means by this.

Scooper Grace Randolph – who is right as often as she is wrong, just for full clarity – is reporting that Johnson is pitching a Black Adan v Justice League v Suicide Squad movie, bringing all corners of the DCEU as it now exists together.

It’s certainly an ambitious idea and given that the Black Adam movie is set to introduce the Justice Society, does that mean they too are involved?

A lot of rumours are suggesting that at the end of Black Adam we’ll see Henry Cavill’s Superman return with Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller asking him to go after Adam as he’s too strong for the Suicide Squad or Justice League alone… if that’s true, it could certainly be setting up a massive team-up movie.

The DC Syndicate write: “Dwayne Johnson is supposedly pitching a ‘Black Adam vs. Justice League vs. Suicide Squad’ movie. Maybe the appearances of Amanda Waller, Harcourt, Superman,… in #Black Adam Movie leading to this event.”

However, while Johnson and Cavill have both, in the past, hinted at a Superman v Black Adam faceoff (links here), it’s interesting that the rumour seems to ignore one very obvious hero to stand in Adam’s way… Shazam! After all, while Adam and Superman have thrown down in the comics, Adam is a Shazam! villain.

Something that Shazam! and Shazam! Fury of the Gods writer and Director David F Sandberg himself took to social media to call out, writing:

“I have no idea if that’s true or not. But it would be pretty funny if Black Adam fights every DC character except Shazam.”

With the following image (continues after image):

In fairness, we doubt, if this all is true, that he’s deliberately ignoring Shazam! or the first two movies in the franchise but rather is hoping to perhaps revitalise both Justice League and Suicide Squad franchises which are in varying bad shape at the minute.

Shazam! star Zachary Levy has previously said that he believes that the plan is to have him and Black Adam meet in the third Shazam! movie, saying: “As far as I know – BlackAdam is not going to be in the second Shazam! because the idea is that they want to go and do a standalone Black Adam movie first and then it would kind of be, if we do a third Shazam! and a second black Adam, kind of like that, that’s where they would meet…”

It’s also worth mentioning that James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad movie was almost set to feature Johnson as Black Adam (here) and Gunn said that another idea was for the Squad to face off against none other than Superman (here)… maybe this is where Black Adam fitted in originally? Was he set to be a weapon to stop Superman? So, the idea of the Squad facing a super-powered villain isn’t totally unique.

If this all is true, Johnson’s big showdown with all the teams could come after the third Shazam! and might even make sense as we had previously heard that after The Flash, Shazam! will be part of the Justice League, so perhaps this is why Johnson hasn’t specifically mentioned him?

With Black Adam currently being projected for a big, big opening, I’d imagine the future of the DCEU and this team-up, if it’s real, could depend on just how well it does.

Black Adam hits cinemas on October 21st and Shazam! Fury of the Gods arrives on March 17th, 2023.
