FIRST LOOK: Here’s the new movie Power Rangers team PLUS new details on Elizabeth Banks’ take on Rita Repulsa

Go, go Power Rangers… News… I STAND BY THAT JOKE!!!

Anyway, here’s the first official image for the upcoming Power Rangers film. All in all, there isn’t too much to say about it. However, with the attention of the Internet focused on Power Rangers, Dean Israelite took this opportunity to discuss the recent casting of Elizabeth Banks as the villainous Rita Repulsa.

In this interview, Israelite stated that: “It’s very exciting that we got [Banks], and I think what she loves is the opportunity to really embrace the insanity and deliciousness of Rita Repulsa in terms of how weird and wonderful that character was, and really dive into and consume that character… You should always be off-balance when you’re watching her. Is she insane? Is she totally calculated? Does she know what she’s doing? Elizabeth can toe that line really well.”

It’s been a long time since I have watched anything Power Rangers related, but from what I can remember, that is a pretty apt summary of Rita’s character. All in all, I still don’t have much to say over the film, but it seems like the people developing it have a true respect and reverence for the material.

My name is James and I am a long time fan of Movies, TV and Comics. I am currently a student, wrapping up my education at Aberystwyth University. I have an undergraduate degree in film and television and I’m working on my Masters in scriptwriting. My personal favourite comic character is the Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), and I view the film adaptation as one of the most horrifying experiences I have had in a movie theatre. As far as film and television go, I am usually willing to give any genre a try, as long as the project is well executed.
