Get up close and personal with Ghostbusters: Afterlife’s new spook, Muncher

January 22nd, 2021 by Marc Comments

With the crap news that Ghostbusters: Afterlife and many other movies have been pushed back, we at least have a fun little bit of news to bring you.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted a new ghost in the Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer when it came out last year (here) and we found out then that this little blue menace is called Muncher and is looking likely to be the new Slimer of the franchise.

then we got a new Ghostbusters/Transformers figure release based on Afterlife, which actually had a mini-figure of Muncher with it (left) but now we have our first detailed looked at the ectoplasmic character.

The guys at Ghostbusters News spotted a new Ghostbusters spot on MasterChef Junior: Spain (we have to applaud their dedication) and in there we can see just how Muncher looks in the flesh. Well, ectoplasm.

The blue guy has six arms and, like Slimer, he’s not a thin character by any means and it looks like he has serious potential to be the new cute addition to the franchise but will likely be introduced as a scary character much in the same way Slimer was in 1984.

On top of this, we’re hearing that in the movie Muncher likes to eat metal (as you can see from this toy image) and may actually grow over the duration of the movie.

Anyway, here’s how the ugly little spud looks:

And here’s the video he came from:

When a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is currently slated for release on November 11th, 2021.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
