GHOSTBUSTER DAY 2022: Ghostbusters animated movie has writer and directors! Yes!

June 9th, 2022 by Marc Comments

Yes! What a night last night was for Ghostbusters fans!

At the Ecto-Fest event we learned that:

A new Ghostbusters movie is coming!

Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan are penning a new Ghostbusters comic

An animated Ghostbusters series is coming

And now we learn that a project we learned about a few years ago, 2016 in fact!, and assumed was dead (here) is happening… we’re getting a Ghostbusters animated movie! Yes, that’s two Ghostbusters movies confirmed now at the same time.

The movie will be helmed by Jennifer Kluska and Chris Prynoski and written by Brenda Hsueh and, according to Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, it will feature a new team and will be ‘a whole new take’.

“This was a passion project of my father’s and it’s easy to understand why,” Reitman said of his dad, original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II director Ivan Reitman, “The world of the unknown can only be properly explored through the limitless reach of animation.”

As mentioned, a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife has also been confirmed, with the film getting the code name “Firehouse.”

We’re not sure what a new take means but I would imagine it could be a new team, perhaps even in another Ghostbusters reality, after all, we have many Ghostbusters universes now, throwing another fun one into the mix is fine by us.

Anyways, Ghostbusters as an animated property seems to be the future along with the live-action movies. And comics. And games. We Ghostheads are eating good right now!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
